Permit Requests and Evaluations
The Environmental Health Division's Well and Septic Permit Request & Evaluations
map allows applicants to draw wells, (existing and proposed) septic systems, building
footprint and swimming pool outlines on a parcel as a communication tool to the
department. Accurate placement of these features allows for better inspections and
quicker processing of applications.
Adding features
The following is a list of possible items that can be included on the map for the
best communication of relevant information in a permit/evaluation application. To
add an item, single click the icon in the tool bar, then click on the map as explained
below to place the feature in the desired location. (Drag and drop only works for
wells.)
- Existing Well:
Add this point to the map to indicate the current location of any and all functioning
or inactive water wells. A white X indicates the location on the property.
- Proposed Well:
Include point(s) for the new location of water well(s) to be drilled in relation
to a permit application.
- Existing Septic System:
Click on the map at the upper left corner of where a current septic system lies.
Then drag the mouse to lower right corner and release the mouse button. A white
rectangle will be drawn to show the approximate location of the existing system.
- Proposed Septic System:
Click the upper left corner of any new septic system and drag to the lower right
corner.
- Proposed Septic Tank:
Drag the mouse between two corners of the new tank placement area. A white rectangle
with back slanting lines indicates the approximate location of the proposed tank(s).
- Building Footprint:
This tool is used to include corners of new or existing buildings for the application
parcel. Click each corner of the building and double-click to add it to the map,
indicating the footprint of the building.
- Driveway:
The corners of a driveway can be placed by clicking each point on the property.
Double-clicking will finish the drawing.
- Pool outline:
Use this button to add corners of a swimming pool on the property. Again use double-click
to finish the drawing.
Even if a feature is obviously visible from the aerial photography, it is best to
outline it with one of the tools mentioned above for optimum clarity.
Change the drawing
Oops, I made a mistake. That's OK. Just use the tools explained below to change
the features that have been added or removed from the map.
- Escape key: While you are drawing a septic system, building or pool, you can always
press the Esc key at the upper left corner of the keyboard (before you double-click)
to stop adding the feature and start over with the correct corners. The tool will
need to be selected again to start drawing the desired feature.
- Undo:
To remove the last placed feature, click this button. If there is nothing that can
be removed, the undo button will be disabled:
.
- Redo:
Once the undo button is clicked, this button will be enabled to add the removed
item back to the map. It is initially unavailable:
.
- Clear All:
If you would like to remove every drawn feature, click this to clear the map. Items
removed using this tool cannot be added again with the redo button.
Measure Distance
There are a couple of options to assist in determing actual distance.
- As you draw: The distance between each click is displayed in the tool bar as building,
driveway and pool features are added.
- Measure Line:
This tool allows you to find distances between clicked points and a total distance
without drawing a feature that stays on the map.
When you are done
Once all requested features are included on the property, click the Continue
button on the toolbar. The browser will return to the permit request page to finalize
your request and input payment.
An image capture of exactly what you see on your screen will be included with the
application that is forwarded to the Environmental Health Division for processing
of your request.
